The Truth
Many bath and skin care products produced by leading manufacturers contain unhealthy additives. For years, leading manufacturers have mass produced their products adding in unnecessary chemicals so their products have longer shelf lives and more appealing fragrances, ultimately saving them tons of money at the cost of the consumers health. In fact, the FDA does not require pre-market testing of cosmetics and personal care products; the manufacturer must conduct their own testing. Manufacturers even select and hire their own scientists and toxicologists to review the safety of their own products. For more facts like this, click here.
Recently, consumers have become aware of what is going into the products they are using on their bodies. It takes time for laws to catch up, and they might never. In order to make companies produce healthier and safer products we must stay vigilant and buy only natural and healthy products. Furthermore, to make sure you are buying and using safe products it is important to always research independent studies.
A study was conducted in 2008 by the Organic Consumers Association (OCA), that reviewed the products of leading manufacturers in personal care products. The results were shocking. Many well known soaps contained a cancer causing, as well as groundwater contaminating, petrochemical called 1,4-Dioxane. Almost half of the products tested contained this harmful chemical. Even more shocking is that this study was conducted on brands calling their products organic. The follow-up study done in 2009 reported improved results, but some still contain the dangerous petrochemical 1,4-Dioxane. Click here for the full product testing for 1,4-Dioxane.
